Dough Rolls On Comedy Drama ‘Paddywhackery’

Courtney & Fionnula Flanagan at the IFTAs Shooting is underway on a new 6 part comedy drama from production company Dough Productions. ‘Paddywhackery’, a series for TG4, begins 4.5 weeks of photography on location in Galway. ‘Paddywhackery’ is the latest offering from the team behind the award-winning short films ‘Yu Ming Is Ainm Dom’ and ‘Fluent Dysphasia’ and is scheduled for broadcast in the TG4 Autumn schedule 2007. Written by Daniel O’Hara & Paddy C. Courtney, the series follows the exploits of newly-unemployed Paddy Woods (Paddy C. Courtney) and his friend Siobhan (Siobhan O’Kelly) as they try to set up a variety of businesses through the Irish language to take advantage of the hefty grants available to promote the native tongue. IFTA winning actress Fionnula Flanagan (Four Brothers, Lost) features as the ghost of Péig Sayers, while Frank Kelly (Father Ted) and Eoin MacDiarmuda also star. Dough Production’s Grainne O’Carroll is producing the series with ‘Yu Ming’ director Daniel O’Hara behind the lens. O’Hara has been developing the Irish language series for three years and hopes to reach a nationwide audience “regardless of that audience's level of Irish.“ Fergal O’Hanlon does the honours as Director of Photography, with Fiachra O’Hanlon heading up Sound and Mary Callery of Parallel Films as Executive Producer. Producer Grainne O’Carroll said, “It has been a long road to this production taking off but we are delighted to finally be up and running. Special thanks have to go to all at TG4 especially Commissioning Editor Proinsias Ní Ghráinne, who has been so supportive during the writing and pre-production processes, and without whom there would be no production.
