Irish Nominees for RTS Craft and Design Awards

The Royal Television Society Craft and Design Awards, which are chaired by CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor, recognise the skills and processes involved in programme production, including editing, lighting, costume design and digital effects. Irish talent has once again been celebrated through nominations for the prestigious awards.

Aidan Farrell has received two nominations in the Effects – Picture Enhancement category. He was nominated for his work on ‘The Thirteenth Tale’ (Vida Films for BBC Two) and for the second series of ‘Utopia’ (Kudos for Channel 4). The Irish colourist previously received a BAFTA special award for his extensive creative work, which includes credits like ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Boy A’.

In the Music – Original Title category, Simon Andrew McAllister has been nominated for the series ‘37 Days’ (Hardy Pictures for BBC Two), which received funding from Northern Ireland Screen. McAllister’s professional background of composing music for screen includes films, television series for broadcasting giants including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, National Geographic, PBS, Discovery, Sky, MTV and video games. Adrian Johnston & Dominik Moll for ‘The Tunnel’ (Kudos for Sky Atlantic & Canal+) and Samuel Sim for ‘By Any Means’ (Red Planet Pictures for BBC One) have also been nominated in the category.

Additionally, Seamus McCracken has been nominated for his work on the Erica Starling production ‘The Disappeared’ (BBC One). McCracken previously won a BAFTA with Sam Collyns, Alison Millar and Darragh MacIntyre for their work on ‘The Shame of the Catholic Church (This World)’. McCracken will be up against Jamie Cairney for ‘Cardinal Burns – Series 2’ (Left Bank Pictures for Channel 4) and Marcus Robinson for ‘Rebuilding the World Trade Center’, (Lion Television in association with Marcus Robinson for Channel 4) in the Photography – Documentary/Factual & Non Drama Productions category.

The Channel 4 drama ‘Utopia’ picked up the most nominations, with five in total, in this year’s RTS Craft and Design Awards, followed by BBC shows ‘The Honourable Woman’ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ which both have four nominations.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 1 December.
