The Irish Film and Television Awards
Donald Taylor Black (FMI), Mary Raftery (RTE Producter) and Peter Canning (RTS) have recently been exploring the possibility of establishing an Academy with responsibility for an award ceremony, and as a result there has been substantial interest in and support of the idea.
A Steering Group was established to organise and facilitate the formation of the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA), who would be responsible for awarding excellence in the categories of film and television and providing a forum for debate and discussion on issues in film and television through the organisation of seminars, meetings and viewings of film and television programmes.
The Council shall be the governing body academy and shall comprise two representatives from each of the following, RTE, BBC NI, UTV (with one representative from each of the broadcasters being a working producer/director); one from TnaG, two from the Irish Film Board, one from the NI section of PACT; two to be elected by the membership (open to everyone working in the industry subject to certain criteria); and one independent chairperson.
Further details will be published when available.
