Latest Round of Irish Film Board Funding Decisions announced

The Irish Film Board have announced the latest round of Production, Distribution and Development funding, with projects from Tom Collins, Jamie Hannigan, Malcolm Campbell, Rebecca Daly and Jim Sheridan all rewarded funding.

In Production Funding, the feature film ‘Muse’ from Fantastic Films and ‘Rec’ director Jaume Balaguero was awarded €200,000 while Tom Collins and De Facto Films (the team behind ‘An Bronntanas’ were awarded €150,000 for their new feature ‘Athrú’. Rebecca Daly and Glenn Montgomery, the duo who wrote Sundance hit ‘Mammal’, have been awarded a provisional order of commitment for ‘Good Favour’ – their follow-up film.

In Animation, Brown Bag’s ‘Gilbert and Allie’ received €200,000 while Kavaleer’s ‘Pablo’ and Salty Dog Pictures ‘Brewster the Rooster’ received €150,000 apiece.

Documentaries ‘The Father of Globalisation’ (from Newgrange Pictures) and ‘Outside The Factory (from FSE Films) were awarded €100,000 each while Underground Films ‘Bought and Sold’

Patrick Farrelly’s ‘Jaha’s Journey’ (produced by Accidental Pictures) has also received €15,000 to complete the project.

In Development Funding, a new project from Jim Sheridan and ShinAwil entitled ‘The Last Barbarian’ was given €50,000 while the animation projects ‘Charlotte's Imagination Runz Wild’ (from Geronimo Productions) and ‘Hunted’ (from Monster Entertainment) received €20,000 and €19,000 respectively.

Screenplay Development Funding of €12,000 was also given to Aoife Crehan (for ‘The Last Right’), Malcolm Campbell (for ‘Grace’) and Andrew Meehan (for ‘A Day in the Life’ ) while actress turned writer Antonia Campbell Hughes was given €5,000 to develop her script ‘Diamond Shitter’.

Other projects in development include ‘Bags and Trev’ from ‘Standby’ duo Rob and Ronan Burke which was awarded €4,500; ‘Doing Two Jobs Badly’ from Norma Sheehan which received €14,900; ‘Airlock’ from ‘Pilgrimage’ scribe Jamie Hannigan which received €13,950; ‘The Hole in the Ground’ from Lee Cronin which received €12,450 and ‘The Incidents’ from David Turpin which received €10,300.

In Distribution Funding, Peter Murphy & Rachel Moriarty’s debut feature ‘Traders’ received €40,000 while Simon Fitzmaurice’s ‘My Name is Emily’ was awarded €35,000. Irish/Australian co-pro ‘Strangerland’ also received €17,000 and Declan Recks political thriller ‘The Truth Commissioner’ received €6,000.
