Oscars 2022
The Academy will reveal the nominations for the 94th Academy Awards later today with many predicting a strong showing from Irish hopefuls at this year’s Oscars.

Kenneth Branagh is tipped to pick up several nominations for his semi-autobiographical Belfast. Actors Caitríona Balfe, Ciaran Hinds, and Jamie Dornan are also in contention for their performances in the monochrome drama.

Branagh could create a new Oscar record of his own today, with nominations in the Best Director and Best Picture (Producer) leading him to become the first person to received Oscar nomination in seven different categories. The current record, which is six, is jointly held by George Clooney, Alfonso Cuarón, and Walt Disney.

A nomination for Best Picture would also mark a significant milestone for Northern Irish funding body, Northern Ireland Screen, who will celebrate their first Oscar nomination in the category.

Irish Editor Úna Ní Dhongaíle is also hoping to pick up her first Oscar nomination for her work on Branagh’s film.

Ruth Negga and Jessie Buckley are also in contention for a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. Both Irish actresses are up for Netflix projects; Negga for her role in racial drama Passing, while Buckley is up for Maggie Gyllenhaal drama The Lost Daughter.

The 94th Oscars® will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the Dolby® Theatre at Hollywood & Highland® in Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.

The 2022 Oscar nomination will be announced Emmy-winning actor/comedian Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace, The Help) and Emmy-nominated actor/producer Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish). The pair will reveal the nominees across all 23 Academy Award® categories in a live presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 8, via global live stream.
