Donegal actress Amybeth McNulty cast in Stranger Things: Season Four

Irish actress Amybeth McNulty has been cast as a recurring character for the fourth season of Netflix’s flagship series Stranger Things.

Currently in production in Atlanta, McNulty will take on the role of Vickie, a cool, fast-talking band nerd who catches the eye of one of our beloved heroes.

McNulty will be joined by other newcomers including Myles Truitt (Queen SugarBlack Mafia Family) will play Patrick, a Hawkins basketball star who has friends, talent, and a good life...until shocking events send his life spiralling out of control; Regina Ting Chen (Queen of the SouthThe Falcon and The Winter Soldier) as Ms. Kelly, a popular guidance counsellor who cares deeply for her students—especially those struggling the most; and Grace Van Dien (Charlie Says, The Village) as Chrissy, Hawkins’ High lead cheerleader and the most popular girl in school. But beneath the seemingly perfect surface lies a dark secret.]

This news was announced at Netflix Geeked's first-ever Geeked Week, a virtual fan-facing event revealing first looks and celebrating all things genre entertainment at Netflix.

McNulty is best known for her titular role as Anne in Netflix’s popular Canadian drama Anne with an E, which follows the adventures of a young orphan girl living in the late 19th century, as she learns to navigate through her new life on Prince Edward Island.

The actress already picked up two awards for her role as Anne including an Canadian Screen Award for Best Leading Actress, Drama Series and a ACTRA Toronto Award for Outstanding Performance – Female – both in 2019.

Having made her Irish television debut on RTE’s four part mini-series Clean Break, the Donegal native has since appeared in 20th Century Fox’s Morgan, Sky’s Agatha Raisin: The Quiche of Death, and CBBC’s The Sparticle Mystery.

Since its release in 2016, Stranger Things has garnered over 65 award wins and 175 award nominations, including those from the Emmys, Golden Globes, Grammys, SAG, and BAFTAs. 

The three-time Emmy Award Nominee for Best Drama is one of Netflix’s most watched titles, with Season 3 alone amassing 40.7 million household accounts in its first four days — more than any other Netflix film or series in that timeframe — and 64 million member households in the first four weeks. 

Stranger Things, which was created by The Duffer Brothers and is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions & 21 Laps Entertainment, is currently underway on its fourth season. The Duffer Brothers serve as executive producers on the series, alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps Entertainment, and Iain Paterson.
