Call for applications: Northern Ireland Screen's Irish Language Broadcast Fund
14 Sep 2020 : News Desk
Irish Language Broadcast Fund
Northern Ireland Screen is seeking applications for the next round of the Irish Language Broadcast Fund.

The ILBF provides both development and production funding across a wide range of television genres, for content broadcast on BBC NI, TG4 and RTÉ. The ILBF will also consider funding content that does not have a broadcaster attached. However, in this case, a wide audience reach must be evidenced.

You can read the projects selected for the 2019 round of the Irish Language Broadcasting Fund.

Below is a breakdown of what the fund offers:

Development
The ILBF funds a small number of development projects. It will fund a maximum of 50% of the overall development budget with a broadcaster generally providing the remaining 50% of funding.

Production
The ILBF will usually invest a maximum of £400,000 in a project, up to a ceiling of 75% of the overall agreed project costs and will require that no less than 70% of those project costs are spent in Northern Ireland.

Other Funding Sources
The ILBF encourages applicants to research other funding sources, which can be used in conjunction with the ILBF such as:

• Broadcast Authority of Ireland’s Sound & Vision Scheme
• Screen Ireland
• UK and Ireland tax relief incentives

Who can apply?

The fund is open to any Northern Ireland based independent production company. It also considers co-productions where at least one of the production companies is based in Northern Ireland. Emphasis should be placed on maximum use of Irish speaking Northern Ireland cast and crew.

How do I apply?

If you are considering applying for funding to the ILBF you must in the first instance contact the Head of the ILBF Áine Walsh or the ILBF Officer Brídín Ni Mhaoldomhnaigh to arrange a meeting to discuss the project. Please be aware of the funding criteria, outlined in the overview of the ILBF section.

Please bear in mind that Northern Ireland Screen does not accept unsolicited scripts and proposals. Details of how to apply for ILBF funding are below. Please note that although guidelines (downloadable from overview page) and the online application form (see below), are available, you should contact the ILBF department to discuss your project before submitting any documents or materials.
