Irish Talent Caitriona Balfe wins an award for Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress at the 43rd People’s Choice Awards, held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Balfe won for her role as Claire Randall in TV series ‘Outlander’.

The Dublin born actress who grew up in the village of Tydavet in County Monaghan was nominated along with four other actresses for Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress. These included; Emilia Clarke ‘Game of Thrones’, Millie Bobby Brown ‘Stranger Things’, Jennifer Morrison ‘Once Upon a Time’ and Lauren Cohen ‘The Walking Dead’.

The awards which honour the best in popular culture for 2016, took place on January 18th. Unfortunately Catriona and her ‘Outlander’ co-star Sam Heughan who also won an award for Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor were both unable to attend the event in LA as they are currently filming for the new series of the show in Edinburgh, Scotland.

They did however post a special thank you message to the ‘Outlander’ twitter account in the recorded video Balfe explained their absence, noting, "We wish we were there. We're here busy filming that's why we couldn't make it. But we definitely have the best fans."

The ‘Outlander’ series, which is based off the bestselling novels by the same name, also picked up awards on the night for Favourite TV Show and Favourite Premium Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series.

Balfe was nominated for a Golden Globe Award this year for Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Drama for her role in ‘Outlander’ and also received IFTA Gala Television  nominations in 2015 and 2016 for Best Actress in a lead role in Drama.
