Northern Irish multi-hyphenate Kenneth Branagh is to star in, direct and produce 20th Century Fox’s remake of Agatha Christie’s classic mystery novel ‘Murder On The Orient Express’.
Branagh will produce along with Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg and Mark Gordon and will take the lead role of Hercule Poirot. The novel sees Poirot stranded on the Orient Express during a terrible snowstorm. When a fellow passenger is murdered, Poirot discovers a great number of other passengers could be the culprit.
It was announced last week that Branagh was to be honoured by the London Film Critics Circle with their annual Dilys Powell Award for his 34 year career that has seen him nominated for five Academy Awards an five Golden Globe Awards, as well as winning an Emmy and three BAFTA Awards.
Branagh is also currently in development of Disney’s adaptation of Irish author Eoin Colfer’s best-selling novel ‘Artemis Fowl’, which he will direct and produce.
Recent directing credits of Branagh’s include the remake of ‘Cinderella’ as well as Marvel’s ‘Thor’. Acting credits include television series ‘Wallander’ and 2011’s ‘My Week With Marilyn’, where he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Sir Laurence Olivier.
