TV3 announces its 2014 Christmas Schedule

TV3 has announced its 2014 Christmas schedule. It has a festive mix of brand new home grown programming, entertaining specials, movie premieres and US blockbusters, combined with a superb selection of Christmas Classics.

Biddy White Lennon and Paul Kelly get set for a scrumptious helping in ‘The Great Irish Bake Off Christmas Special’, with presenter Anna Nolan and special guest Lisa Cannon on hand to oversee the culinary masterpieces. Michael Bublé celebrates the holiday season with a festive Christmas special joined by special guests Barbra Streisand, Ariana Grande, Miss Piggy and the Rockettes. Tommy Fleming presents a seasonal musical evening at Bellek Castle, Mayo, and St. Stephen’s night will see the return of ‘Downton Abbey’ in a highly anticipated Christmas Special.

‘Xposé Celebrity Special 2014’ looks back at the biggest entertainment stories of the year from London Fashion week to ‘The Hunger Games’. There will be side-splitting live comedy from comic genius Tommy Tiernan in a stand-up performance at City Limits Comedy Club in Cork. Comedian Brendan Grace also presents a night of pure comedy in a special stand-up performance.

TV3 rings in the New Year celebrating 15 Years of Ireland AM broadcasting breakfast television in a brand new special. ‘2014: This Was The News’ captures all the drama at home and abroad during twelve months which will live long in our memories. ‘2014: The Highs and The Lows’ is a look back at some of the biggest entertainment stories of the year, the good, the bad and the ugly. Returning entertainment favourites include ‘The X Factor: The Winner’s Story’, ‘Catchphrase Christmas Special’, ‘The Celebrity Chase Christmas Special’, ‘Celebrity Tipping Point’, ‘Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special’ and ‘All Star Family Fortunes Christmas Special’.

Films broadcast on TV3 over the Christmas holidays will include the multi Oscar-winning blockbuster ‘Forrest Gump', the Sylvester Stallone action thriller ‘Cliffhanger’, and the timeless classic ‘White Christmas’, airing on Christmas Day. Other classics include ‘The Shawshank Redemption’, ‘Dirty Dancing’, ‘The Snapper’, ‘War Of The Buttons’, ‘Close Encounters Of The Third Kind’, ‘The Mummy’, ‘Scrooged’, ‘A Christmas Carol’, ‘Farewell Mr Cringle’, ‘The Wizard Of Oz’, ‘The Punisher’, ‘The Princess Bride’, ‘Matchmaker’, and ‘Evelyn’ among others.

As well as an entertaining Christmas line up, TV3 also has some exciting new programmes to look forward to in 2015, starting with ‘Red Rock’, the station’s brand new Irish soap. ‘Red Rock’ will kick off in early January and will air twice a week.

Ray Foley will host a brand new game show called ‘The Algorithm’, and ‘The Restaurant’ also begins on TV3 this January with a number of celebrity chefs and special guest critics. ‘Jason Byrne’s Snaptastic Show’ promises big laughs with guests including John Bishop, Russell Kane and Johnny Vegas.

The TV premiere of the feature film ‘The Guarantee’, produced by TV3 and starring Peter Coonan, finally hits the small screen, telling the tale of the night that changed Irish history forever.

TV3 will broadcast a brand new special on January 4th called ‘Songs of Inspiration’. At the centre of the program is Red Hurley, whose “How Great Thou Art” concerts have become a new benchmark for spiritual music performances. Presented by Sile Seoige, 'Songs of Inspiration' will feature uplifting, gospel and spiritual music, as well as elements of folk and easy listening. Singing sensation David O’Connor and virtuoso Claudia Boyle join Red in Dublin’s Christchurch Cathedral for this hour of uplifting music.

Award-winning drama ‘Broadchurch’ returns exclusively to TV3 with series two. Travel series ‘The Holiday Show’ also returns.

New Irish series ‘Ireland’s Oyster Clan’ and a brand new investigate series called ‘Donal Macintyre Breaking Crime’ will also be included in TV3’s January schedule.
