Season 5 of RTÉ’s hit gangster drama ‘Love Hate’ will be launched by ITV Studio’s Global Entertainment at MIPCOM this month.
The fifth season is due to kick off this Sunday at 9.30pm on RTÉ One, and past ratings suggest that the show will perform strongly with the consolidated season four average being 1,017,000 with a 53% share.
International interest has also proven ‘Love/Hate’ quite the commodity with the IFTA winning show selling to countries like Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Israel, Brazil, Norway and Latin America. It has also sold to HULU, Netflix and Amazon in the USA, and Channel 5 in the UK. Channel 5 have already aired the first series of the show and are due to air the second series by the end of this year.
Speaking about the potential of ‘Love/Hate’ at MIPCOM, Head of Programme Sales at RTÉ Global Edel Edwards said:I think the fact that we have 28 episodes now to sell with Season Five launching too is definitely a good thing. The more episodes to sell the better and hopefully it will bring in new territories. ‘Love Hate’ has been such a big show here in Ireland. There has been overwhelming press and publicity about it and the ratings are fantastic. We had a 53% share in the audience at the end of last year which is phenomenal in any market and hopefully it will make other territories stand up and take notice.
Amid reports of the format being sold for the purposes of a potential international remake, Edwards said:There is definitely interest there and we have been in discussions with a number of territories but there is nothing firm yet.
’Love/Hate’ returns this Sunday at 9.30pm on RTÉ One and is written by Stuart Carolan and directed by David Caffrey. The show stars Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Peter Coonan, Charlie Murphy, Killian Scott and Brian F.O’ Byrne with all the post production work being completed at Windmill Lane Pictures Post Production .
