Toronto Irish Film Festival & Chicago Irish Film Festival Now Accepting Submissions
29 Sep 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
The Toronto Irish Film Festival (TIRFF) and the Chicago Irish Film Festival (CIFF) return in 2015 to once again celebrate the very best of Irish cinema.

Now in their 5th year, TIRFF continues its mandate in providing exposure for Irish filmmakers within Canada. TIRFF began in 2010 with a screening of ‘The Yellow Bittern: The Life & Times of Liam Clancy’ and has enjoyed sold-out screenings of such films as ‘The Secret of Kells’, ‘His & Hers’, ‘Pilgrim Hill’ and ‘The Irish Pub’.

“We delighted to be able to bring Ireland’s world-class films to Toronto for a fifth year in-a-row. 2015 is a very big year for us as we’re celebrating 5 years, no small feat since we remain a very small team, but we always knew there was a deep audience for Irish film here,” said co-founder Michael Barry.

Irish filmmakers are invited to submit their films for 2015 consideration via the festival’s website here. The deadline date for entries is December 31st 2014.

Submissions for the 16th Chicago Irish Film Festival, February 28 – March 7, 2015, are also now being accepted through to December 1st, 2014. Last year, romantic comedy ‘How to Be Happy’, documentary ‘Skin in the Game’, psychological thriller ‘Stalker’, and experimental film ‘Sodium Party’ were all screened at the festival.

Entries are invited in all categories (features, shorts, animation, documentaries, indie and experimental) and submissions from both established and new filmmakers are welcome. The Chicago Irish Film Festival requires at least a Chicago premiere for all feature, documentary and short films.

Submission is free and there is an Audience award, a Festival award and a Consulate of Ireland award, presented to a short film that best captures the spirit of Ireland and Irish culture, up for grabs.

Films can be submitted online or via post. See full guidelines here.
