Multiple awards for IADT students at Galway Film Fleadh 2014

‘Vertical Horizons’ by Anita Gaughan won Best Animation Sequence in a Short Film
IADT students, graduates and lecturers featured strongly throughout the Galway Film Fleadh this year, with many collecting awards. Talent from The National Film School (NFS) at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Dun Laoghaire was showcased at the six day international film event.

IADT student Anita Gaughan won Best Animation Sequence in a Short Film for 'Vertical Horizons' and Best First Short Animation went to 'A Girl's Best Friend' by Clare Carroll.

NFS graduates also won multiple awards at the Fleadh. ‘Patrick's Day’ by Terry McMahon won joint first in the award for Best Irish Feature. Cian McGarrigle won Galway Film Fleadh’s pitching award. Patrick Jordan won The Donal Gilligan Award for Best Cinematography for ‘Volkswagen Joe’. The Tiernan MacBride Award for Best Short Drama went to 'Rockmount' by IADT graduate Dave Tynan.

Director Conor Hamil and producer Joshua Burdon earned a Special Mention for 'Luke' in the Best First Short Drama award, and in the James Horgan Award for Best Animation director Sarah Walsh earned a Special Mention for 'Marrying the Sea'.

Many films from IADT students were selected for the Fleadh including 'Skunky Dog’ directed by James Fitzgerald, ‘Hollowlands’ directed by Greg Colley and ‘Bo’ directed by Oisin Bickley. The student animation films selected included ‘Lena and Gray’ (Melissa Malone), ‘In Sheep’s Clothing’ (Aisling O'Reilly), ‘Your Move’ (Simon Riley), and ‘Useless’ (Eva Kavanagh). Other feature films directed by graduates included Patrick Ryan’s ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’.

National Film School Animation Lecturers also featured throughout the Fleadh with David Quin competing with, ‘A Warning to All Kings’ and Steve Woods with dance film, ‘Keeping Time’.

The Galway Film Fleadh concluded on the 13th July 2014.
