Wildcard Acquires ‘Get Up and Go’
30 Jun 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Wildcard has acquired Brendan Grant’s new feature film ‘Get Up and Go’, which will have its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh next month on July 10th. The film stars Peter Connan (‘Love/Hate’, ‘Between the Canals’) and Killian Scott (‘Love/Hate’, ‘Calvary’) in the lead roles.

‘Get Up and Go’ tells the story of Coilin (Scott) and Alex (Coonan), two friends in Dublin at the wrong end of their 20s whose dreams of artistic greatness haven’t quite worked out. When Alex discovers that his girlfriend is pregnant, he refuses to allow her derail his plans to leave Dublin for the bright lights of London. Meanwhile, Coilin’s carefully constructed world of hopes, dreams and expectations begins to come crumbling down around him. Set against the backdrop of famous Dublin locations, pubs and clubs, ‘Get Up and Go’ shows a youthful and vibrant Dublin, rarely seen on film.

Speaking about the acquisition and the world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh, Brendan Grant, the film’s writer and director said: “I'm delighted to be returning to Galway for the premiere of ‘Get Up and Go’ since the Fleadh is synonymous with receptive and knowledgeable audiences and has always proved to be a great launch-pad for Irish cinema.

“It is a pleasure to be working with Wildcard on the distribution side and to feel confident that your film is in safe and creative hands.”

The film features live performances from David Kitt, Mik Pyro (Republic of Loose) and Peter Coonan, as well as tracks from the best of the Irish music scene, including Adrian Crowley, The Villagers, Lisa O’ Neill, and Jape.

‘Get Up and Go’ is made by Fastnet Films (Kisses, Life’s A Breeze) production in association with Fragrant Films and Celofan Audiovisual with the participation of the Irish Film Board and the Film Agency for Wales. A theatrical release date will be announced shortly.

‘Get Up and Go’ will screen in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway on Thursday July 10th at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
