Industry Hub Welcomes Directors and Producers
05 Jun 2014 : Aisling Newton
This Saturday the John Ford Ireland Film Symposium will host the highly anticipated Industry Hub event, which will feature a unique panel of diverse filmmakers from across the industry. Ford's body of work still proves a strong influence on modern-day filmmakers.

Presented in association with the Irish Film Board, the Directors Hub brings together a diverse group of filmmakers headed up by a unique panel of Directors who will discuss the ‘job of work’ of Directing and examine some of Ford's incredible masterpieces which are still a strong influence on modern-day filmmakers.

Participating directors are Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Whit Stillman (Metropolitan), acclaimed UK director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Sightseers), IFTA nominated Kieron J. Walsh (When Brendan Met Trudy, Jump) and Vikings director Ken Girotti (who has just started this week on the new season of the acclaimed show). Award-winning Irish Director Neasa Hardiman will chair this Discussion.

The Directors Hub will take place at 12pm on Saturday, June 7, in the Gresham Hotel.

The John Ford Producers Panel takes place on Saturday, June 7, at 2pm.

The participating panellists are key industry figures from across UK and Ireland, who will discuss the challenges of making independent films and getting them out to the wider international market. The event is Chaired by David Collins (Samson Films), and Panellists are Laura Hastings Smith (Hunger), Andrew Reid (Head of Production, Northern Ireland Screen), James Flynn (Calvary, Penny Dreadful), Alan Moloney (MD of Parallell Films; Albert Nobbs, Byzantium) and Sue Bruce Smith (Head of Commercial and Brand Strategy at Film 4).

The three day Symposium will also include a directing masterclass with the award-winning director and screenwriter Ben Wheatley, supported by Screen Training Ireland. Wheatley has directed some of the most acclaimed UK films of recent years including ‘Down Terrace’, ‘Kill List’, ‘Sightseers’ and ‘A Field in England’. Later this summer, he will commence shooting his new film ‘High Rise’, which will star Tom Hiddleston in Northern Ireland and adapted from cult novelist JG Ballard's 1975 book. Award winning author and journalist Scott Eyman will also be In Conversation With... Tara Brady (Irish Times) discussing his critically acclaimed and New York Times best-selling book, ‘John Wayne: The Life and Legend’.

Further information on both events, plus the Ben Wheatley Masterclass, discussions, screenings, and events, can be found on the 2014 John Ford Ireland Film Symposium page available here.
