The Independent Film Festival of Boston and Irish Film Festival, Boston, are partnering up to co-present two critically acclaimed Irish features: ‘Calvary’ and ‘Starred Up’.
The 12th Annual Independent Film Festival Boston will take place April 23-30 at the Somerville Theatre, Brattle Theatre, Coolidge Corner Theatre, and UMass Boston. Tickets for all events are on sale now at iffboston.org.
Also known as IFFBoston or IFFB, the festival was created in 2003 by non-profit organisation, the Independent Film Society of Boston. Over 120 screenings take place each year, and there are also nightly parties and weekend panel discussions.
‘Calvary’ directed by John Michael McDonagh and starring Brendan Gleeson, is about a good Irish priest whose life is threatened during a confession. McDonagh and Gleeson previously collaborated on ‘The Guard’, and their latest feature won IFTAs for Best Actor, Best Script and Best Film. Read more about the film here.
‘Starred Up’ will also screen in Boston. The drama stars Jack O’Connell as a juvenile delinquent who is put into the same prison as his father. Shot in Belfast’s Crumlin Road Gaol, the film received funding from Northern Ireland Screen.
‘Calvary’ will show at 2pm on Saturday 26 April at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square. ‘Starred Up’ will show at 2.30pm on Sunday 27 April at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.
‘Calvary’ is now showing in Irish cinemas across the country. ‘Starred Up’ is showing in the IMC, Dun Laoghaire.
