Documentary to be made on the life of teen advocate Malala Yousafzai
The 16 year old Pakistani advocate Malala Yousafzai, who became an international icon last year when she survived an assassination attempt by Taliban gunmen, will soon have her incredible story told on the silver screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Davis Guggenheim, director of the critically acclaimed documentaries ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and ‘Waiting for Superman’, will helm the project with Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald producing. In early 2009, Yousafzai wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC detailing her life under Taliban rule in the Swat Valley, an area where the Taliban had banned girls from attending school. She was a strong supporter for girls' education and was nominated for the international Children's Peace Prize in December 2011. When her identity was revealed, the Taliban attempted to take her life in October 2012. Taliban gunmen boarded her bus and shot her in the head, but the bullet passed through her head and neck and became stuck in her shoulder. She was flown to the U.K. for medical care, where she made a full recovery. Just last week on Friday July 12th, Yousafzai, who is the youngest person to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, spoke at the U.N. Youth Assembly in New York City.
Tom Cruise’s ‘All You Need is Kill’gets a new title
The upcoming Warner Bros./Village Roadshow sci-fi thriller ‘All You Need is Kill’ has undergone a title change and will now be called ‘Edge of Tomorrow’. The film, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, will debut brand-new footage at the San Diego Comic-Con during the Warner Bros. panel this week. The film is based on the Hiroshi Sakurazaka novel and takes place in the near future in which an unbeatable alien race carries out on assault on Earth. Cruise stars as Lt. Col. Bill Cage, an officer who has never seen a day of combat and is dropped into what becomes a suicide mission. After he is killed within minutes, he finds himself in a time loop that forces him to go through the combat and death repeatedly, but with each repetition, learns to engage the enemy with increasing skill. Directed by Doug Liman (producer on ‘The Bourne Identity’ series), the film also stars Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong and Franz Drameh and will be released in the summer of 2014.

The first trailer for ’12 Years a Slave’, Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated follow-up to his 2011 film ‘Shame’, has been released online. Based on Solomon Northup’s autobiography of the same name, the film is set in the pre-Civil War United States, and centres on a free black man from upstate New York who is kidnapped and sold into slavery for over a decade. In the twelfth year of his odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) forever alters his life. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Northup, and Irish actor Michael Fassbender, who has starred in all of McQueen’s feature films, stars as the ruthless plantation owner Edwin Epps. The film also stars Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Scoot McNairy, Garrett Dillahunt, Alfre Woodard, Sarah Paulson, and Michael K. Williams. The film will be released in America on December 27th and will be released in Ireland shortly afterwards.
