Three Irish films and their producers have been selected to meet with 450 potential co-production and financing partners at this year’s Berlinale Co-Production Market.

Ripple World Pictures’ ‘The Valentine Gang’ and Black Sheep Productions’ ‘Scumbot’ have been officially selected for the co-production market, and Fastnet Films’ ‘Mammal’ has been chosen as a Berlinale Residency project.

Projects at the co-production market have the opportunity to meet with a number of international production companies that are active in the global film industries, and establish new partnerships with them. Participants at the 2013 market will also have the opportunity to request a 30-minute one-on-one meeting with the selected projects.

‘The Valentine Gang’, a comedy about a criminal who seeks the assistance of a self-help group to rob a bank, will be produced by Ripple World duo Jacqueline Kerrin and Dominic Wright. ‘Parked’ director Darragh Byrne is on board to direct from a script by Mark Doherty. The project was approved for funding from the MEDIA scheme in September 2012.

‘Scumbot’, originally a short from writer and director Ciaran Foy, saw a young boy receive a radio controlled robotic scumbag as a birthday present. ‘Citadel’ director Foy has written the feature film, with James Cotter on board as director. The project received an offer of funding from the Irish Film Board last July.

Rebecca Daly’s ‘Mammal’ has been chosen for the Berlinale Residency

‘Mammal’, which is the story of a woman who takes in a child after her own son goes missing, will be directed by ‘The Other Side of Sleep’ helmer Rebecca Daly and produced by Macdara Kelleher for Fastnet.

The Berlinale Residency programme offers directors, who have already had success on the international festival circuit, a grant to go to Berlin for four months.

The 2013 Berlinale Co-Production Market takes place from February 7-17.

A total of 20 international fictional films have been chosen from 318 entries.
