An independent Irish film pitched as a modern day look at the story of Jesus is seeking extras to take part in the shoot later this month
‘Jesus: The Remake’ is billed as a modern day re-imagining of the story of Jesus and is being produced by Cork-based production company Epic Productions.
A climatic scene for the movie will be filmed in The Quays Bar in Galway on October 29 and producers are seeking upwards of 80 extras for the day.
‘Jesus: The Remake’ is being directed and produced by Chris Cullen from a script by
Dave Horgan. The film is being shot on a budget of less that €2,000 with shooting having taken place on-and-off over the past year.
The film’s cast includes Raymond Brothers, Rupert Stutchbury, Lisa O' Leary, Joe Lyons and Kevin Mulcahy.
A synopsis for ‘Jesus: The Remake’ reads: “Jesus is a musician who uses his songs to get his message out to the world. He, along with his girlfriend Maggie, forms a band with some of the apostles and begins to tour locally in Ireland. His songs are his sermons, the gospels are blogs. Coverage on social networks, including Facebook and YouTube, gain the band a cult following.
“The attention is not, however, universally positive with two dogmatic priests threatened by his claims of divinity. As Jesus’ popularity grows, so too does the threat from the renegade priests, who are prepared to stop him at all costs.”
Cullen said: “I'm one of the two directors of Epic Productions and my business partner Justin and I are lucky in that we had an awful lot of the equipment ourselves and we didn't want a lack of funding to stop us making a movie. We found Dave's script, which we loved, and decided to just run with it.”
The majority of the film has been shot primarily in Cork but the filmmakers have decided to shoot one of the climatic scenes in The Quays Bar on Quay Street in Galway.
The shoot will take place from 4pm on October 29 and will last for five to six hours. Interested parties should log onto the film's website www.jesustheremake.com or call Cullen on 087 994 8400.
