Irish Actors Emmett Scanlan and Karen Hassan Join Belfast Thriller ‘The Fall’
29 May 2012 : By Steve Cummins
Emmett Scanlan and Karen Hassan
‘Hollyoaks’ stars Emmett Scanlan and Karen Hassan have teamed up again on-screen for BBC thriller, The Fall, which is currently shooting in Belfast

Scanlan (Charlie Casanova) and Hassan (Hunger) join a previously announced cast led by Gillian Anderson (The X Files) and Jamie Dornan (Marie Antoinette).

Fellow Irish stars Séainín Brennan (Hidden), Gerard McCarthy (Hollyoaks), Simon Delaney (Roy) and Michael McElhatton (Spin The Bottle) have also been cast in the five-part psychological thriller, which follows the story of a serial killer who stalks his victims around Belfast and also tells the story of the detective who is chasing him..

Principal photography on the series began in Belfast in late March with the 11 week shoot set to continue until around June 11.

Scanlan will play DC Glen Martin, one of the detectives investigating an unsolved murder, while Hassan will play the part of Annie Brawley, a young accountant who is tracked by serial killer Paul Spector (Dornan).

Both Dubliner Scanlan and Belfast-born Hassan are best known for playing Brendan Brady and Lynsey Nolan on Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’ and have been filming on ‘The Fall’ over the past few weeks. Scanlan is due to complete his scenes this week before beginning filming on ‘Hollyoaks Later’ on June 6.

Written by Allan Cubitt (Prime Suspect 2), ‘The Fall’ is being produced by UK production house Artists Studio. Stephen Wright will executive produce through BBC Northern Ireland, while the series is being funded from Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

‘The Fall’ will be broadcast on BBC2 later this year.
