Sheehan, Norton & O'Carroll Receive BAFTA Noms

Irish actor Robert Sheehan and Irish presenter Graham Norton are among the nominees announced today, April 26th for this year's British Academy Television Awards. The former has been shortlisted in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his role as Nathan in ‘Misfits’ whilst Brendan O'Carroll's 'Mrs Brown's Boys' has been nominated in the category of Siuation Comedy and award show host, Graham Norton is nominated in the category of Entertainment Performance for ‘The Graham Norton Show’ which was further nominated in the group of Best Entertainment Programme.

Robert Sheehan will face competition in his group from ‘Downton Abbey’s Brendan Coyle; ‘Sherlock’s Martin Freeman and Johnny Harris for his supporting role in ‘This is England ‘86’. The Portlaoise native recently announced that he is not returning to the third series of ‘Misfits’, instead he plans to concentrate on his feature film career. He starts shooting new rom-com ‘Romeo and Britney’ this summer.

‘Misfits’ has received four nominations in total, including one for Sheehan's co-star Lauren Socha in the category of Best Supporting Actress. The show has also been nominated in the academy’s Drama Series category alongside ‘Sherlock’; ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Being Human’.

Brendan O'Carroll's recently re-comissioned sit-com 'Mrs Brown's Boys' has been shortlisted in the category of situation comedy alongside 'Peep Show', 'Rev' and 'The Trip'. The show is written byv and stars O'Carroll as a Dublin matriarch who can't stop interfering in the lives of her family and friends.

Graham Norton has received a nod in the category of Entertainment Performance. Other nominees in the group include Rob Brydon for ‘The Rob Brydon Show’; Stephen Fry for ‘QI’ and ‘Harry Hill in ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp’. The BBC One chat show has also been nominated in the category of Entertainment Programme along with ‘The Cube’; ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Have I Got News for You’. The Irish presenter will also host the awards gala ceremony.

The Phillips British Academy Television Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 22nd and will see BAFTA gongs presented in 24 categories.
