A late entry for the 2010 Galway Film Fleadh, Maurice Linnane’s 'A Kiss for Jed Wood' is to receive its first public screening at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh on Friday, July 9th. The film stars Mark O'Halloran (Adam and Paul), Jayne Wisener (Sweeney Todd) and Lee Arenberg (Pirates of the Caribbean).
As her task on a TV game show, Orla, a wild 19 year old from Ireland, is sent to New York to get a kiss from country superstar Jed Wood. Ray Timmons, a forty year old with a great future behind him, is dispatched as her cameraman. In New York they meet up with porn film sound recordist Mike and start the quest for the elusive Jed Wood.
They are wildly unsuccessful but two events change the course of their quest whilst their odd odyssey is taken up and championed by DJ Carter on radio station WSNX. When Ray decides to stay and rescue Orla from a fate worse than death, neither of them get quite what they want - but they do perhaps get what they need.
The film is produced by Ignition Film Productions and has been picked up by Locomotive Entertainment worldwide who are releasing it in the autumn. Fleadh Programmer Felim MacDermott has welcomed the film to Galway, saying: “We're particularly pleased to be the first film festival in the world to screen ‘A Kiss for Jed Wood’.”
The film's producer, Tim Palmer (Into the West) has voiced his delight at the news that the movie is getting its first ever public screening in Ireland, commenting: “A Kiss For Jed Wood' has already garnered international sales but it's important to us that it's going to be seen first at home.”
Written by Barry Devlin and Director Maurice Linnane 'A Kiss for Jed Wood' will receive its first public showing in the Galway Omniplex at 5.15pm on Friday 9th July.
Tickets are available from www.tht.ie or by calling 091-569777. The film has been produced with the assistance of the Irish Film Board.
