Feature film on Irish banking crisis ‘The Guarantee’ begins shooting in Dublin

New Irish feature film The Guarantee, which recreates the drama surrounding the Irish banking crisis in 2008 has begun shooting in Dublin this week. The film’s casting has already raised some eyebrows with Irish actors taking on roles of some of the most talked-about political and financial figures in modern Irish history. The film will tell the story of the bank guarantee given by the Irish government in 2008 to secure the domestic banking system, beginning the story four years before and charting the origin of that pivotal decision.

Robert Sheehan to star in new supernatural drama ‘The Messenger’
22 Jul 2014 | Irish actor Robert Sheehan has been confirmed for the leading role in new UK supernatural film ‘The Messenger’ which begins filming in England’s Peak District this week. The Misfits & Love/Hate star will appear opposite Lily Cole and Jack Fox in the film directed by David Blair.

Eve Hewson in Talks to Star in Spielberg Thriller
22 Jul 2014 | Steven Spielberg will be producing and directing what is an as-yet-untitled new Cold War thriller for Dreamworks, and none other than Irish actress Eve Hewson has been attached to the project. Deadline.com first reported the news that Hewson is in talks to join the project and also reported that production is set to commence in September with shooting on location in New York and Berlin.

Jack Reynor cast in ‘The Secret Scripture’
21 Jul 2014 | Twenty two year old Wicklow native Jack Reynor (‘What Richard Did’), who most recently appeared in Dublin for the premiere of ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ and was in Galway last week for the premiere of ‘Glassland’, will return to Ireland for his next movie role in the film adaptation of Sebastian Barry’s ‘The Secret Scripture’.

Peter Coonan to star in TV3’s Feature Film ‘The Guarantee’
10 Jul 2014 | Produced by John Kelleher Media in association with the BAI, the Irish Film Board and TV3, filming of ‘The Guarantee’ will get underway in the TV3’s Sony HD Studio on 21st July. Directed by Ian Power (The Runway), the film recreates the drama surrounding the most significant political decision in modern Irish history when the Irish government decided to guarantee the entire domestic banking system on the night of September 29, 2008. ‘The Guarantee’ tells the story of that night, and what led to it. Starting four years earlier, it charts the peak of the boom and the beginning of the bust.

John Carney Will Cast Unknown Actors in ‘Sing Street’
01 Jul 2014 | In a recent interview with Cominsoon.net, John Carney revealed that, similar to his first hit film ‘Once’, he will be casting new, unknown actors in his next production ‘Sing Street’. The interview was orientated around Carney’s new film, ‘Begin Again’, which stars Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, and hits Irish cinemas on Friday July 11th.

Jimmy Deenihan Congratulates Fassbender and Cillian Murphy on joining AMPAS
30 Jun 2014 | Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has congratulated Irish actors Michael Fassbender and Cillian Murphy, who are among 20 actors who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The newest members of AMPAS were announced last Thursday (27th June).

26 Jun 2014 | Welsh actor Luke Evans and American actress Elisabeth Moss have joined the cast of ‘High-Rise’, directed by Ben Wheatley and produced by Jeremy Thomas’ Recorded Picture Company (RPC). Production is scheduled to commence in July in Belfast with financiers including Film4, the BFI Film Fund, Scope Invest Producteurs of Belgium and Northern Ireland Screen.

Cast Added to Season 3 of ‘Vikings’
19 Jun 2014 | Following the announcement of Ben Robson joining ‘Vikings’, more additions have since been made to the cast for the latest season of the hit History Channel series. ‘Vikings’ follows the adventures of the warrior Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). The upcoming third season will, like its preceding seasons, be shot in Co. Wicklow with production in Luggala and Ashford Studios. Filming is currently underway.

Highlights of annual John Ford Ireland Film Symposium 2014

The Symposium, which is dedicated to the life and works of legendary Irish-American filmmaker John Ford, consisted of a number of events such as Industry Panel Discussions, rare Ford Screenings, Academic Panels, In Conversation With and a Masterclass. Special guests attended and screenings of some of Ford’s most beloved films were presented.

03 Jun 2014 | UK director Peter Nicholson is currently in prep for his first feature film, psychological thriller ‘Dartmoor Killing’. Irish actress Gemma-Leah Devereux has been confirmed as a member of the cast. She will star alongside Rebecca Night (‘Lark Rise to Candleford’, ‘Cold’), Callum Blue (‘Dead Like Me’, ‘Smallville’), David Hayman (‘Queen and Country’, ‘Macbeth’) and theatre actress Olivia Morgan.
