Colm Meaney stars
Cameras will start rolling on the set of Ripple World Pictures’ new feature film ‘Parked’ on Monday, January 11th. ‘Parked’ is directed by Darragh Byrne (Wide Angle), written by Ciaran Creagh, and features an all star cast including Colm Meaney (The Damned United), Colin Morgan (Merlin), Milka Ahlroth (Twisted Roots), Stuart Graham (Hunger), Michael McElhatton (Happy Ever Afters) and David Wilmott (I Went Down).

The film’s tagline ‘Sometimes the person you least expect will change your life for ever’ introduces a story about the unlikely duo of Fred, a mobile homeless man who loses his London-based job at the start of the film and Cathal, a frenzied 21 year old with a serious dope problem.

Both men live out of their cars and are drawn together through a common bond of having a troubled history with their respective fathers. Through many events – funny and poignant Fred’s life is turned around and he comes to understand the importance of feeling truly at home.

The film is an Irish-Finnish co-production and is the second for Ripple World following the successful partnership behind ‘Lapland Odyssey’ which wrapped filming in Lapland at the end of last year and is currently in post production in Egg and Ardmore sound.

‘Parked’ is directed by Darragh Byrne (Wide Angle) and produced by Dominic Wright (The Daisy Chain), Jacqueline Kerrin (Our Wonderful Home) and Aleksi Bardy (Forbidden Fruit). John Conroy (Wild Decembers) is the project’s director of photography and the editors on board are Gareth Young (Eden) and Guy Montgomery (The Clinic).

The music for the film will be provided by Niall Byrne (Small Engine Repair) and the costume designer is Susan Scott (A Shine of Rainbows). Line producer for the project is AnneMarie Naughton.

Producer Dominic Wright tells IFTN how Ripple World Pictures became involved with the ‘Parked’: “We were looking for something to do and this script came along and we really liked it.” He continues by explaining that the film reflects a very real way of life for many people. “Yes, in the U.S. they call them the ‘mobile homeless’, people who live and work out of their cars. It’s a very real phenomenon and we’ve been talking to Shelter to get some statistics because there is a considerable number of people living this way.”

As to the genre of the film Dominic enlightens us by explaining “Darragh (Byrne, Director) calls ‘Parked’ a drama-comedy with a small ‘c’. I think it could be described as either a drama or comedy-drama because they tend to be funny in places but with strong underlying drama.”

The film has been financed by the Irish Film Board, Finnish Film Board, RTÉ and will make use of Section 481. Picture Post for the film will be carried out at EGG. Sound post and lab will be done in Helsinki, Finland.

’Parked’ will shoot for four weeks around Dublin and is expected to be delivered in July of this year.
