SAG 2023: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once makes history with four awards

Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Everything, Everywhere All At Once made history at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in L.A. on Sunday night, by becoming the first film to receive four SAG Awards.

The film emerged with the Motion Picture Cast award, as well as personal accolades for three members of the Everything Everywhere All At Once cast including Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The success of Everything, Everywhere, All At Once on the night meant that Irish Oscar hopeful The Banshees of Inisherin missed out on all four of the same awards.

Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy-drama made SAG nomination history alongside Everything, Everywhere All At Once last month, with both films earning five nods each.

Michelle Yeoh won the award for Female actor in a leading role, in a category that had huge competition from Cate Blanchett (Tár), Viola Davis (The Woman King), Ana de Armas (Blonde), and Danielle Deadwyler (Till).

Ke Huy Quan continued his meteoric resurgence by receiving the award for Male actor in a supporting role. Both Banshees of Inisherin co-stars Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan missed out in a category that also included Paul Dano (The Fabelmans) and Eddie Redmayne (The Good Nurse).

Jamie Lee Curtis emerged as a surprise winner of the Female actor in a supporting role category, beating co-star Stephanie Hsu, as well as Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), and Hong Chau (The Whale).

Following Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan’s BAFTA win across these category, the race to the Oscars now seems wide open.

Following his Golden Globe win, Colin Farrell missed out on the award for Male actor in a leading role, with Brendan Fraser being recognised for his performance in The Whale. Austin Butler (Elvis), fresh off his BAFTA win, is another that is an Oscar hopeful in a category that also included Bill Nighy (Living) and Adam Sandler (Hustle).
