Iris Productions Awarded TG4 Guinness PRO14 Rugby Contract
31 Aug 2018 : Nathan Griffin
TG4 has announced Iris Productions as the recipient of the new contract to produce the broadcaster’s rugby output for the Guinness PRO14. The announcement was made at TG4’s season launch in the Sportsground on Friday, August 31st.

The contract will run for the duration of TG4’s three-year deal with Guinness PRO14.

This will see the Spiddal-based production company produce over 200 hours of live, deferred and highlights coverage over the coming seasons for TG4. NEP has been selected as OB facilities provider and Riverside Television will supply uplink facilities.

A previous announcement made in April of a continued rights deal with Guinness PRO 14, means that TG4 will be the only broadcaster in Ireland providing exclusive free-to-air coverage of the recently expanded championship for the coming three years.

Speaking at the launch, Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, TG4’s head of Sport said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Iris Productions to produce our flagship rugby programme Rugbaí Beo for the next three years. Guinness PRO14 is an important component of our schedule and we know that Iris will continue to drive audience engagement through innovation. With world class facilities providers NEP bringing a wealth of expertise in live production we are excited to see how the coverage evolves to meet the demands of an increasingly sophisticated sporting audience.”

Iris Productions has been operating since 2005 and has produced a number of Irish rugby documentaries. ‘Munster: The Brave & the Faithful’ charted Munster Rugby’s inaugural Heineken Cup win in 2006, whilst IFTA nominated ‘Axel’ followed the life and career of late Munster Rugby legend Anthony Foley. Iris was also nominated for an IFTA awards for ‘The West’s Awake’, which provides a peek behind the curtain to Connacht Rugby’s first Heineken Cup campaign.

Kieran Hartigan, Executive Producer for Iris Productions added:

“We couldn’t be more excited to get into the new season. Having produced TG4’s offtube and highlights programmes for the past 4 years, this feels like a natural next step for Iris Productions. The Guinness PRO14 is a fantastic championship which consistently delivers world-class rugby throughout the season.  We are passionate about rugby and look forward to bringing all the drama of this fantastic championship to TG4’s audience over the coming three seasons. We are particularly excited to be embarking on this journey with NEP as our facilities provider and can’t wait to leverage their unparalleled live sports production experience to deliver ever more engaging programming to Irish audiences.”

TG4 will broadcast 28 live matches this year including all 11 of Connacht Rugby’s home games including Connacht’s Interprovincial clashes with Munster, Leinster & Ulster Rugby.

TG4 Rugbaí Beo coverage will also include:

  • Live & Exclusive coverage of all Connacht matches against Welsh Opposition
  • Live Munster Rugby Matches against Welsh Opposition
  • Live Leinster Rugby Matches against Welsh Opposition

Conradh Rugbaí bronnta ag TG4 ar Iris Productions

Tá séasúr an rugbaí buailte orainn.  Beidh tús á chur le comórtas Guinness PRO14 an deireadh seachtaine seo leis an gcéad chluiche idir Cardiff Blues agus Laighin, curaí na bliana seo caite, ar fáil beo, saor go haer, ar TG4. Ciallaíonn an socrú maidir le cearta Guinness PRO 14 a fógraíodh i mí Aibreáin go mbeidh TG4 ar an aon chraoltóir amháin in Éirinn a dhéanfaidh craoladh eisiach saor go haer ar an gcomórtas leathnaithe seo i rith na dtrí bliana seo romhainn.

D'fhógair TG4 freisin agus an séasúr nua á sheoladh acu sa Sportsground inniu gur ar Iris Productions a bronnadh an conradh suntasach maidir le hábhar rugbaí an chraoltóra a léiriú ar feadh ré trí bliana an tsocraithe maidir le comórtas Guinness PRO14.  Léireoidh an comhlacht léiriúcháin atá lonnaithe ar an Spidéal níos mó ná 200 uair a chloig d'ábhar beo, d'ábhar iarbheo agus d'ábhar buaicphointí do TG4 i rith na dtrí shéasúr seo chugainn. NEP a roghnaíodh maidir le saoráidí OB don chraoladh seachtrach a chur ar fáil.

Ag labhairt dó ag an seoladh, dúirt Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, Ceannasaí Spóirt TG4:

“Is breá linn a bheith ag obair i gcomhar le Iris Productions maidir le Rugbaí Beo, clár mórshuntais rugbaí TG4, a léiriú go ceann na dtrí bliana amach romhainn.  Is gné thábhachtach sa sceideal againn comórtas Guinness PRO14 agus táthar cinnte go leanfaidh Iris Productions den cheangal leis an lucht féachana a chothú le cora nua sa stíl léiriúcháin.  Beidh an saineolas cruthaithe maidir le léiriú beo atá ag NEP, soláthraithe saoráidí de scoth an domhain, ina bhonn treise faoin saothar agus táthar ag tnúth go mór leis an gcaomhchóiriú breise a thugtar ar an obair a fheiceáil de réir mar a bhíonn snas breise á éileamh ag lucht féachana sároilte spóirt na hÉireann.”

Dúirt Kieran Hartigan, Léiritheoir Feidhmiúcháin Iris Productions:

“Tá díocas agus fonn oibre orainn ag ullmhú don séasúr nua.  Tar éis dúinn ábhar offtube agus cláir buaicphointí TG4 a léiriú le ceithre bliana anuas, is nádúrtha an chéim sa bhreis seo anois ag Iris Productions.  Bíonn iomaíocht iontach idir na foirne a fhéachann le craobh chomórtas Guinness PRO14 a thabhairt leo agus imrítear rugbaí chomh maith agus atá ar fud an domhain ó thús go deireadh an tséasúir.  Tá muintir an chomhlachta seo tugtha don rugbaí agus muid ag tnúth go mór leis an gcoimhlint agus leis an iomaíocht ar fad a chur i láthair do lucht féachana TG4 i rith na dtrí shéasúr seo amach romhainn.  Ábhar misnigh agus mórtais dúinn a bheith ag tabhairt faoin obair seo i gcomhar leis an gcomhlacht áiseanna NEP ionas go mbeidh buntáiste as an taithí atá acusan, seachas aon dream eile ar domhan, i mbun cláir spóirt a léiriú chun sárábhar cláir níos tarraingtí agus níos mealltaí a chur ar fáil do mhuintir na hÉireann.”

Beidh 28 gcluiche á gcraoladh beo ar TG4 i mbliana, gach cluiche baile ag foireann rugbaí Chonnacht ina measc.  Tugtar san áireamh leis sin ‘Mí na Seaimpíní’ i mí Meán Fómhair agus cluichí idir cúigí in aghaidh na Mumhan, Laighean agus Uladh.

Áireofar i measc na gcluichí a chraolfar ar Rugbaí Beo TG4 chomh maith:

  • Craoladh beo eisiach ar chluichí uile Chonnacht in aghaidh fhoirne na Breataine Bige
  • Cluichí Beo fhoireann na Mumhan in aghaidh fhoirne na Breataine Bige
  • Cluichí Beo fhoireann Laighean in aghaidh fhoirne na Breataine Bige
