Phoenix Films New Show ‘The Rehab’ Launches on TV3 – Monday, October 16th
16 Oct 2017 :
The new three part documentary series by Phoenix Films is set to air on TV3 at 9pm Monday, October 16th.

This series offers a character-led, multi-layered journey into the life and workings of one of Ireland’s most successful rehabilitation centres, Coolmine Therapeutic Community.

Featuring a diverse cast of characters, the three part series follows them as they make their way through the unique therapy programmes the Centre offers and beyond into their lives outside when they finish treatment.

The new series was made by Phoenix Films: The director is Martina Durac; editor is Genevieve Murphy; DOP is Paddy Jordan; Producers are Martina Durac & Julien Behal; Commissioning Editor for TV3 is Aoife Stokes.

Filmed over a period of a year, with unprecedented access to staff and residents, this intimate and visceral series follows several people from the beginning to the end of their treatment. As they learn to live without drugs, they have to come to terms with the past; what has brought them here and what impact their addiction has had on their families. They’ve come from varying backgrounds and have had very different life experiences. But, one thing unites them: their desire to get clean and stay clean.

The series features all the highs and lows that can be imagined in such a setting, a powerful human drama of addiction and trying to get free. Along the way, we spend time with Tobias, Sharon, Columb, Sandra, Mark  and Carolyn as they fight their way out of addiction and look to create a new life for themselves and their families. Some of the women residents have their pre-school children staying with them and Coolmine provides an on-site crèche and pre-school (an innovation not seen in any other treatment centre in Ireland). This is hugely helpful in allowing mothers to seek treatment for addictions.

The people in the series are all going through treatment at different times and thus the series moves through multiple storylines - someone who is just starting in one of the residential centres, someone who is half-way through, someone coming to an end. The series features them in the centres, at group sessions and going about their daily tasks. We meet them in the outside world and see how life is going for them after they finish residential treatment.  We also meet people who have gone through Coolmine and find out how they’re getting along now. Not everyone makes it through treatment, though, and life takes a difficult turn for some of the clients. The series culminates in the Coolmine graduation when those who’ve successfully completed the programme come together to celebrate and look forward to a future out of addiction. It makes for a powerful and engaging series.
