The six-part Irish comedy written and created by playwright Stefanie Preissner, and made by Deadpan Pictures (Moone Boy) has been acquired from RTÉ to be aired on BBC Three later this year.
"The opportunity to bring the voice and experience of young Irish women to a larger audience is fantastic," Preissner said.
"The team on Can’t Cope Won’t Cope’ did an amazing job capturing that voice and I hope that the BBC Three audience love it."
"The news that the comedy is set to air on the public service broadcaster’s online channel BBC Three was reported on Digital Spy website on February 1st. It was confirmed by writer Stephanie Preissner on her Twitter account later on that evening as she shared in a tweet “Can’t Cope Won't Cope on the BBC. Britain just got a bit more CORK.”
The show which first aired on RTÉ 2 last September, can be described as a darkly comic drama which tells the story of two young Irish women Aisling, actress Seána Kerslake, ‘A Date for Mad Mary’ and her best friend Danielle, actress Nika McGuigan ‘Philomena’. The episodes detail the unravelling of their friendship as the hangover wears off and their lives and priorities begin to radically diverge.
"Set in contemporary Dublin, in the house they have shared since moving from Cork, these two very different twentysomethings navigate their respective professions; a high-powered finance job in Aisling’s case, and a struggling art career in Danielle’s.
Stephanie announced at the beginning of January that she was currently in the process of writing a second season of ‘Can’t Cope Won’t Cope’. So more of Aisling’s tales of the high’s and low’s of living in the ‘big schmoke’ can be expected on Irish screens soon.
‘Can’t Cope Won’t Cope’ will be available on BBC Three at some point in 2017. Keep an eye out on IFTN for news and updates of the TX confirm.
