The Subtitle European Film Festival is in full swing down in Kilkenny (23-29 November) with Irish/Russian co-production ‘Moscow Never Sleeps’ among this year’s screenings.

The Subtitle European Film Festival brings together a selection of European films that invites audiences to see cinema in a whole new way. Many of the films in the 2015 programme have never been screened theatrically in Ireland.

Subtitle has 29 films this year which include thrillers, dramas and comedies from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Poland, The Netherlands, Russia, Lithuania, Greece, Estonia and Georgia. There will be over 150 guests in Kilkenny for the festival, including over 40 European actors.

Films this year include ‘Blue is the Warmest Colour’, ‘Amour’, ‘Force Majeure’, ‘Dogtooth’ (from ‘The Lobster’ director Yorgos Lanthimos), Oscar-winning film ‘Ida’ and Oscar nominated film ‘Leviathan’ (which was graded at Windmill Lane Pictures Post Production).

Also screening is ‘Moscow Never Sleeps’, which premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier this year. The film is a contemporary multi-narrative feature film that dives headlong into the volatile intersections of Russia's capital and the intimate lives of five people. Directed by Irish director Johnny O’Reilly, ‘Moscow Never Sleeps’ is produced by O’Reilly and Andrey Zakharov of Russia’s Snapshot Films. In Ireland, Katie Holly from Blinder Films also produces.

Check out our interview with Johnny O’Reilly about the film here.

The festival will conclude on Sunday, November 29th with the annual Angela Awards, hosted by actress Pauline McLynn and The Camembert Quarter.
