A lot on their plate: EGG take us through busy 2015

Upcoming titles include ‘The Legend of Longwood’ and ‘Ghosthunters’
Post and VFX house Egg have had a lot of projects come through their door over the past year, with 2016 gearing up to be even busier.

Titles that EGG have worked on which can be seen in cinemas this Autumn include ‘The Legend of Longwood’(October 23rd). The picture, Visual FX and Sound post production of Lisa Mulcahy’s fantasy feature (produced by Grand Pictures and Holland Harbour) took place at EGG with Grainne Gavigan editing.

EGG also completed VFX (and animation) work on Ripple World Pictures co-production ‘Ghosthunters: On Icy Trails’ (October 2nd). VFX Producer Emma Rooney (Doc McStuffins, Octonauts), VFX and Animation director Miguel Fuertes (Iron Man 3, Happy Feet) as well as Liam Neville (‘The Avengers’) and Glen Southern (SKY) were across the film which is based on the best-selling novel Ghost! by Cornelia Funke and tells the story of a fearful 11-year-old boy who discovers a green ghost in his cellar. The film is directed by Tobi Baumann and will premiere at the Savoy on September 26th.

RTÉ One and RTÉ2 have both announced their Autumn schedules in recent weeks with EGG across a number of titles. Directed by Aoife Kelleher and produced by Ruth Carter for Parallel Films, ‘9 Stone Lighter’ will air on RTÉ on October 1st. The one-hour documentary telling the story of a woman after gastric bypass surgery was edited by Guy Montgomery with Grade, Online and Sound also taking place at EGG.

Baz Ashmawy’s new show ‘Baz: The Lost Muslim’ will also air on RTÉ2 this Autumn. Directed by Joanne McGrath and produced by Brown Bread Films, the one hour documentary follows Baz as he turns to Ireland and abroad in search of his Muslim heritage. The show was once again edited by Guy Montgomery with Grade, Online and Sound taking place at EGG.

Montgomery also edited Animo TV’s new one hour documentary ‘Ireland’s Great Wealth Divide’ which will air on RTÉ One on September 21st. Directed by Gerry Hoban, the show follows David McWilliams as he explores how the divide between rich and poor in Ireland is growing.

EGG also supplied Grade, Online and Sound to RTÉ documentary ‘Outsider Art with Brent Pope’. Produced by Firebrand Productions, this programme will examine this art genre from an Irish perspective as well as how internationally, it has become a celebrated part of the established art world.

Upcoming feature films at EGG

Upcoming feature films at EGG include the highly anticipated Northern Irish shot ‘The Truth Commissioner’.

Directed by Declan Recks, written by Eoin O’ Callaghan and produced by David Collins, Kevin Jackson, Eoin O’Callaghan and Samson Films, the film stars Roger Allam as a career diplomat who is assigned the task of heading up a brand new commission to deal with crimes during the “troubles” but soon secrets emerge and he discovers some inconvenient truths about the disappearance of a teenage boy 15 years in the past.

The film was edited by Gareth Young, graded by Nik Panteris with Online (Alan Sullivan) and Sound provided by Patrick Drummond, Aza Hand, Colm Mullaly and Katie O’Mahony.

They will also work on Lorcan Finnegan’s upcoming feature ‘Without Name’. Produced by Brunella Cocchiglia, funded by IFB Catalyst Project and written by Garret Shanley, the film is about a systematic land surveyor who loses his reason in a supernatural environment that defies all boundaries.

Sound is currently taking place at EGG with Patrick Drummond, Aza Hand, Colm Mullaly and Katie O’Mahony.

EGG will also complete Grade, Online and Sound on ‘Cardboard Gangsters’ which is currently shooting. Written by John Connors and Mark O'Connor, directed by Mark O’Connor and produced by Stalker Films with TV3 and the BAI also attached, the film is about a group of young gangsters trying to gain control of the drugs trade in Darndale.

Billy O’Brien’s US shot drama ‘I Am Not A Serial Killer’ will also land at EGG’s door in the coming months. Adapted by O’Brien from the novel by Dan Wells, the film is produced by Nick Ryan, Robbie Ryan (Also DOP), and Billy O’Brien of Floodland Pictures with the IFB providing partial funding. The film stars Max Records and Christopher Lloyd and is a horror which tells the story of a teenage boy who ends up in a battle with demons, his own and a serial killer who is terrorising his small town. Rushes processing, Grade (Nik Panteris), Online (Alan Sullivan) and Sound (Patrick Drummond, Aza Hand, Colm Mullaly and Katie O’Mahony) will be completed at EGG.

‘Little Grey Fergie’, a co-production from Ripple World Pictures about a little grey tractor with a heart and soul, his best friend Gustav, and their friends on the farm. The film is in the edit at the moment at EGG with guest editor Leif Kjeldson. EGG will also be across Rushes processing, Grade (Nik Panteris), Online (Alan Sullivan) and Sound (Patrick Drummond, Aza Hand, Colm Mullaly and Katie O’Mahony).

‘Moon Dogs’, directed by BAFTA nominated director Philip John which shot in Scotland earlier this year is about two teenage step brothers on a road trip across Scotland & the enigmatic girl who comes between them. The film received some production funding from the Irish Film Board and is a Ripple World Pictures co-production.

Rushes processing, Grade (Nik Panteris), Online (Alan Sullivan) and Sound (Patrick Drummond, Aza Hand, Colm Mullaly and Katie O’Mahony) will take place at EGG while the edit is currently ongoing with guest editor Tony Kearns .

EGG will also provide Grade, Online and Sound post-production in 2016 to the short films ‘Goodbye Darling’ and ‘Granite and Chalk’, both of which were selected for the After 16 Short Film Scheme. They also worked on acclaimed director Conor McMahon’s new short horror comedy ‘Strangers in the Night’, which was selected for the Galway Film Fleadh and the Film4 Frightfest earlier this year. EGG provided Grade (Nik Panteris), Online (Alan Sullivan) and Sound (Aza Hand) on the short.

Upcoming TV projects in 2015/2016/2017

Currently in pre-production and coming to Setanta in 2016 is ‘Superfit Seniors’ by Ripple World Pictures. In this original sports entertainment series, presenter Eamonn Coughlan is on a mission to find some of Ireland’s oldest athletes, challenge himself to conquer their sports, and discover their secret to performing at such a high level despite their age. Grade, Online and Sound will take place at EGG and Malcolm Moloney and Guy Montgomery will edit.

EGG are also involved in ‘Roy’ spinoff ‘Little Roy’ which was just commissioned by CBBC. The series follows the everyday adventures of five-year-old Roy O’Brien, an enthusiastic, inquisitive and playful little boy who happens to be a cartoon. Malcolm Moloney is editing with Grade, Online and Sound also taking place at EGG.

Produced by Mind The Gap Films, ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ is a one-hour documentary on the history of the deaf community in Ireland that will air on RTÉ. EGG’s Aza Hand worked on sound for the documentary which is directed by Garry Keane and produced by Anne Heffernan.
