'The Stag' Cast Confirmed for Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival
28 Aug 2013 : By Kevin Cronin
'The Stag' lads have to improvise in the Irish wilderness.
‘The Stag’, John Butler’s heart-warming Irish comedy about a bachelor party gone wrong, headlines a strong Irish line-up at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, one of six Irish productions set to screen.

The cast and team behind ‘The Stag’ are also set to attend the film’s red carpet premiere, including John Butler, Andrew Scott, Peter McDonald, Brian Gleeson, Andrew Bennett, Hugh O’Conor, Michael Legge and Amy Huberman.

The remaining Irish films featuring in the TIFF line-up are ‘Life’s A Breeze’, ‘The F Word, ‘Stay’, ‘The Sea’, and Jimi Hendrix biopic ‘All is by my Side’, which was filmed in Dublin.

‘The Stag’ follows set designer Fionnan (Hugh O'Conor) who is persuaded by his fiancé (Amy Huberman) to go on a camping trip for his stag party and to invite her obnoxious brother, known as ‘The Machine’ (Peter McDonald).

As the trip descends into chaos, the plot features drugs, masturbation, an electric fence, an unexpected fire, a sing-along, and a nocturnal naked whooping ritual of male bonding.

Produced by Treasure Entertainment and supported by the Irish Film Board, ‘The Stag’ was recently acquired by Arrow Film Distributors for an Irish and UK cinema release in early 2014.

‘The Stag’ is produced by Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan and co-produced by Claire McCaughley, based on a script by John Butler and Peter McDonald.

The following is rest of the TIFF 2013 Irish line-up:

‘Life's a Breeze’(Fastnet Films) – directed, produced & written by Lance Daly; and produced by Macdara Kelleher.

‘The F Word’ (Fastnet Films) – directed by Michael Dowse; written by Elan Mastai; produced by David Gross, Jesse Shapira, Jeff Arkuss, Andre Rouleau and Macdara Kelleher.
