‘Railway Children’ Goes Underground As Post-Production Wraps
28 Aug 2012 : By Eva Hall
Catherine Wrigglesworth and Emily Forster
Irish feature film ‘Railway Children’ has completed post-production and will premiere at the Underground Cinema Festival in Dun Laoghaire on September 15.

The film recently wrapped post-production at Dublin-based October Eleven Pictures. The post-apocalyptic feature stars Catherine Wrigglesworth (A Christmas Carol) and Emily Forster as teenage sisters Evie and Fran who are left to fend for themselves after a deadly virus wipes out the entire adult population. Most at home when reading excerpts from children’s novel ‘The Railway Children’, both girls suddenly find themselves in a tense and violent environment when they come across other survivors who have grouped together a commune.

Jason Figgis (A Christmas Carol) of October Eleven wrote, directed and produced the feature which was shot around Dublin over a two week period in the summer of 2011. October Eleven’s Jason Shalloe co-produced, with Figgis also taking over DoP and editing duties. Sinead Murphy and Tori Campbell provided make-up on set while Michael Richard Plowman composed an original score.

Other cast includes Adam Tyrrell as Helman, Dylan Jennings as Simon and Laoise Barrett as Grace. Figgis shot the film on a budget of less than €2,000. ‘Railway Children’ will screen at the Underground Festival at 6pm on September 15.

October Eleven, the production company behind ‘The Twilight Hour’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’, has also just wrapped filming on another feature, ‘The Ecstasy of Isabel Mann’, in Dublin. Figgis also wrote, produced and directed, with Shalloe co-producing. Alan Rogers was the DoP on the shoot, with Michael Richard Plowman providing the score. Catherine Wrigglesworth and Sarah Shiels provided makeup on set.

The vampire-based thriller sees teenager Isabel Mann become the prime suspect in a number of her classmates’ disappearances after she is seduced into a world of violent vampires. Ellen Mullen stars as Isabel Mann, with Neill Fleming, Matthew Toman, Mirjana Rendulic and Karim Elgendy co-starring. Saorla Wright, Gerry Herbert, Kevin Buckley, Emily Forster, Adam Tyrrell, Killian O’Farrell, Jason Sherlock, Sorcha Kerins and Jenny Dixon all feature. Figgis will again edit the feature in post-production, with Mark McLoughlin looking after sound.

The Underground Cinema Festival takes place from September 13-16, and will also screen Frank Kelly’s anticipated debut feature ‘Derelict’, short film ‘It’s a Wonderful Death’, and feature ‘Portrait of a Zombie’.
