Michael Fassbender is reported to be in talks to star in director Gerardo Naranjo's romantic drama, ‘The Mountain Between Us’.

Based on the novel by Charles Martin, ‘The Mountain Between Us’ follows two strangers who survive a plane crash in the Colorado woods and are forced to rely on one another for survival, eventually falling in love.

Fassbender is in talks to play lead character Ben Trace, a doctor and climber who uses his skills to transport an injured writer down a mountain in harsh weather.

The link-up would again see Fassbender attached to 20th Century Fox picture following last year’s ‘X-Men: First Class’ and the forthcoming Ridley Scott-directed ‘Alien’ prequel, ‘Prometheus’, which is due for release in Ireland on June 1.

‘The Mountain Between Us’ will mark a Hollywood studio debut for Naranjo, who previously directed the Mexican thriller ‘Miss Bala’. It has been adapted for the screen by J. Mills Goodloe, best known for his work on the ‘Lethal Weapon’ franchise.

Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark and Jenno Topping will produce for Chernin Entertainment.

Fassbender is currently preparing to star in Ridley Scott's ‘The Counselor’, and he's also scheduled to reunite with his ‘Shame’ director Steve McQueen on the drama ‘Twelve Years a Slave,’ which Brad Pitt is producing.
