North American distributors ARC Entertainment and XLrator Meida have acquired rights to Nick Hamm’s Irish comedy ‘Killing Bono’.
The distribution duo plan a VOD release in October and a theatrical release in November 2011. Director Nick Hamm commented on the acquisition saying ”I’m excited to be working with such an innovative and forward-thinking distribution partnership as ARC/XLrator. Their passion and creativity will enable US audiences to discover and experience this film.” ARC Entertainment and XLrator Media have also teamed up to distribute Ian Palmer’s Irish documentary ‘Knuckle’, for which they acquired North American distribution rights in July.
‘Killing Bono’ is an adaptation by Dick Clement and Ian la Frenais (The Commitments) of Neil McCormick’s memoir ‘Killing Bono: I Am Bono’s Doppelganger’. It stars Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian), Robert Sheehan (Cherrybomb), Krysten Ritter (Confessions of a Shopaholic) and Pete Postlethwaite (Romeo and Juliet). It tells the story of two young brothers who form a band in Dublin in the late 70s, but are upstaged by four of their friends whose band U2 is flung into international success.
Produced by Nick Hamm, Mark Huffam for Generator Entertainment, Ian Flooks, Piers Tempest for The Salt Company and co-produced by Isibeal Balance, ‘Killing Bono’ was filmed in Belfast, Dublin and London in 2010 and had a theatrical release in Ireland in April 2011.
