‘Donkey’, a five and a half minute animated short, tells the tale of a donkey who is fed up of his minimum wage job at the beach. The film was made as part of Frameworks, a funding scheme from the Irish Film Board, the Arts Council and RTÉ which looks to combine creative exploration with an ability to appeal to a wide audience.
‘Donkey’ is produced by Niamh O’Donoghue (Associate Producer, Charred and Feathered) and Barley Films and will now compete with 37 other entries from 17 countries including the UK, Germany, Thailand, South Korea and Russia. The selection committee involved in choosing the shortlisted titles previewed 545 films for the Children’s and Youth Competition, which addresses age groups from three to 18 years.
The Oberhausen International Short Film Festival has been presenting special children's cinema programmes for 30 years. A children's jury and a youth jury made up of children from Oberhausen judge the programme and select the winners. Cash prizes totalling €2,000 are awarded.
The 56th Oberhausen Short Film Festival will run from April 29th to May 4th. For a full list of the shortlisted titles visit www.kurzfilmtage.de
