The co-development agreement gives Kavaleer the exclusive right to represent the property in Europe, allowing them to seek distribution and broadcaster interest as well as meeting with the funding bodies based in Ireland.
Yowza, a Toronto-based animation and visual effects house, and Irish animation house Kavaleer will be working closely together in the coming months. With such a large body of work – spanning fifty years and over 1,100 daily newspapers - there is plenty of inspiration at their disposal.
‘Hi & Lois’ began in 1954 as a spin off from animator Mort Walker’s other iconic comic strip, ‘Beetle Bailey’. Over the next few years, ‘Hi & Lois’ steadily grew in popularity, and is now read by over 100,000,000 people in over 50 countries worldwide. The strip has outlasted ‘Pogo’, ‘L’il Abner’, ‘Hagar the Horrible’ and many others.
“Kavaleer are very keen to get started in the New Year on such an engaging property and certainly look forward to working with the team at Yowza,” says Gary Timpson, Kavaleer’s Managing Director.
Sentiments echoed by Yowza Animation Executive Producer, Pete Denomme who says: “Hi & Lois’ is a great property with strong family values directly in-line with Yowza’s ongoing mandate to provide quality family friendly entertainment. Yowza is very excited to work with a studio of Kavaleer’s calibre and know this will be an important and creative collaboration.”
