Omniplex Unveils Swan Cinemas
18 Aug 2009 :
Omniplex, Irelands largest cinema group, has revealed plans for its new concept 3 screen, 571 seater ‘Swan Cinemas’ located in the Swan Shopping Centre, Rathmines, Dublin 6, which is scheduled to open this November.

Whilst programming policy will cater largely for mainstream movies, Swan Cinemas digital facilities will allow for a more diverse and varied programming schedule. The Rathmines located movie theatre is the first cinema in Dublin custom designed for Digital cinema projection.

Through Digital Cinema Limited, Swan Cinemas will install BARCO 2K digital projectors and will use Masterimage 3D equipment for all 3D feature films. There will be 13 digital 3D feature films released in 2009 including Jim Carrey’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ and this number is set to increase to 21 next year.

Commenting on the €3 million investment, Paul Anderson (Omniplex / Swan Cinemas, Managing Director) said, “Having pursued plans for a cinema in Rathmines for over 10 years we are delighted that, at last, the people of Rathmines and the wider communities of Dublin 6 will have a quality cinema on their doorstep.”

Rathmines has been without a cinema since the closure of the Stella over 5 years ago. It is expected that up to 20 full and part time jobs will be created at Swan Cinemas.
