Produced by Martina Niland (Once) in Samson Films and co-produced by Cathleen Dore, ‘Snap’ is funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB), ScreenScene, Accomplice TV & Section 481.
The film will shoot for four weeks in locations around the city of Cork which will benefit from spend on local goods and services, as well as short terms employment opportunities for local crew and extras.
The feature tells the disturbing story of three generations of a family trapped in recreating a past that each one denies.
Director Carmel Winters commented, “In the current climate of cut-backs and uncertainty, it's a great privilege to be making a film. It's also a real responsibility to make sure that film is worth making. ‘Snap’ affirms the spirit of being human. It's about loving the unlovable, finding our way home to the rag and bone shop of the heart.”
Cork has proved a popular film location in recent times with Neil Jordan’s feature ‘Ondine’, set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September; Conor Mc Pherson’s ‘The Eclipse’, which proved a hit at the Tribeca Film Festival; and Ken Loach’s ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’ which won the Palm d’Or in Cannes, all utilising the Irish location and the resources which it can offer to shoot their feature films.
