RTE's Irish language news will be broadcast from the TG4 studios in Baile na hAbhann, Co. Galway from next week.

From July 20th, as part of a €3 million revamp, ‘Nuacht’ reader Siun Nic Gearailt will be moving to the TG4 studios in Baile na hAbhann after four years presenting ‘Nuacht’ in the Montrose RTÉ studios in Donnybrook.

The Irish language programme will assume its new slot at 5.45pm seven days a week, with a total of 42 staff to be involved in both the research and presentation of both Nuacht for RTÉ and TG4 from the Galway studios in Connemara. Three new technical positions have been created as a result of investment by the State Broadcaster.

The Irish language news programme will have a new 5.45pm slot seven days a week.

Commenting back in 2007 on the proposed plans to relocate to the West Coast, Director General of RTÉ Mr Goan, remarked; "The move is a significant development in terms of the RTÉ commitment to both Irish language and regional development,” however, the 2008 transfer that was originally scheduled has been delayed until now.

Moving the Nuacht service to the Gaeltacht this Autumn is a historic development as it is the first time that RTÉ has shifted part of its principal service out of Dublin.
