Irish Talent Nominated for Monte Carlo TV Fest

Merlin actor Morgan
Irish television productions ‘Killinaskully’, ‘Raw’ and ‘The Tudors’ along with ‘The IT Crowd’ creator by Graham Linehan and ‘Merlin’ actors’ Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath have all be nominated for 49th Monte Carlo Television Festival taking place from 7 – 11 June 2009.

Both Michael Parke, producer of ‘Raw’, and ‘The Tudors’ producers Morgan O'Sullivan and Michael Hirst have received nominations in the Outstanding International Producer (Drama) and Outstanding European Producer (Drama)categories.

For Outstanding Actor – Drama, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors), Peter O'Toole (The Tudors), Keith McErlean (Raw) and Armagh actor Colin Morgan (Merlin) have all received nods while in the Actress section Charlene McKenna (Raw), Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors) and Katie McGrath (Merlin) are up for the award.

Pat Shortt and Brian Kelly are nominated in the International Producer (Comedy) category along with ‘The IT Crowd’ creator Graham Linehan. Both have also received nominations in the Outstanding European Producer (Comedy).

Irish actor Chris O’Dowd has received a dual nomination in the Outstanding Actor – Comedy, being acknowledged for his role in ‘FM’ and ‘The IT Crowd’. Actor Pat Shortt has also been nominated for ‘Killinaskully’. Shortt’s ‘Killinaskully’ co star Maria McDermottroe is nominated for Outstanding Actress – Comedy.

The Irish nominees will be up against a host of international competition with talent from ‘Mad Men’, ‘Lost’, ‘Spooks’, ‘30 Rock’ and ‘The Office: An American Workplace’ all nominated across different categories.

Created in 1961, by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, the festival aims to recognise television as an exceptional means of bringing cultures together and enhancing their respective knowledge. H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco has been the President of the Festival since 1988. The winners will be rewarded with the festival’s prestigious Golden Nymphs statuettes.
