As part of the European Film Awards, the People's Choice Award sheds a special spotlight on the people films are made for - the audience. Nominated titles include David Yates’ ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, Joe Wright’s ‘Atonement’, Peter Flinth’s Swedish epic ‘Arn: The Knight Templar’, Nic Balthazar’s Belgian-Dutch drama ‘Ben X’ and Dany Boon’s French comedy ‘Welcome to the Sticks’.
The shortlist also includes German films ‘The Wave’, by Dennis Gansel, and Til Schweiger’s ‘Rabbit Without Ears’; two Spanish horror films - Juan Antonio Bayona’s ‘The Orphanage’ and ‘[Rec]’ by Jaume Balaguero & Paco Plaza; Claude Berri’s ‘Hunting and Gathering’ starring Audrey Tautou; the Russain based ‘Mongol’, directed by Sergei Bodrov and the Turkish drama ‘Saturno Contro’ by Ferzan Ozpetek.
Past winners of the European Film Academy’s People’s Choice Awards have included Pedro Almodovar's ‘Volver’, Roberto Benigni's ‘Life Is Beautiful’, Jean-Pierre Jeunet's ‘Amélie’, Peter Cattaneo's ‘The Full Monty’ and Fatih Akin’s ‘Head-On’.
The European Film Academy (EFA) founded in 1988, currently unites 1,800 European film professionals with the common aim of promoting European film culture.
Film fans from across the Europe can vote for their favorite film at www.peopleschoiceaward.org from September 1st and closes on October 31st.
