Principal photography commences in the UK city of Stoke on Trent today, August 18th, on ‘Souled Out’ a new feature helmed by Irish director Shimmy Marcus (Headrush, Aiden Walsh: Master of the Universe) starring IFTA winning actor Pat Shortt Man about Dog, Garage).
Shortt will appear on screen alongside BAFTA award winner Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen, Red Road), Alfie Allen (Atonement), Craig Parkinson (Control) and Nichola Burley (Donkey Punch).
Written by Jeff Williams, ‘Souled Out’ will recount the love story between two teenagers during the Northern Soul movement of 1974. Original music to the film will be recorded by The Dap Kings, the band of Grammy Award-winners Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson, along with a soundtrack of original classics from the nightclub – The Wigan Casino - the home of Northern Soul.

Shimmy and the team have assembled an amazing cast and we feel very confident about the film’s prospects.”
Producers Christine Alderson of (Bye Bye Blackbird, The Halo Effect) of Ipso Facto Films and Natasha Carlish Dreamfinder Productions have been developing the film for the past five years. Filming is scheduled for five weeks with funding from regional agency Screen West Midlands and supported by Northern Film and Media.
