IFTA Calls for Submissions for US Academy Foreign Language Film Award
03 Jul 2008 :
Kings
The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA), the organisation responsible for the selection of Ireland’s submission for consideration for the Foreign Language Film Award at the American Academy Awards, is calling for Irish filmmakers to submit their feature films for consideration.

In 2007, Tom Collins’ Irish language feature film ‘Kings’ was the first Irish project to be submitted for consideration in the American Academy’s Foreign Language category. ‘Kings’ was chosen by an IFTA jury comprising of Director Neil Jordan (Breakfast on Pluto, The Crying Game), Actor Daniel Day Lewis (Gangs of New York, My Left Foot); Actress Fionnula Flanagan (Transamerica, The Others); Writer/director Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, In the Name of the Father, Some Mother’s Son) and Casting Director Ros Hubbard (Evita, The Mummy, Enemy at the Gates). Austrian drama ‘The Counterfeiters’ finally won the Oscar at the ceremony in Hollywood on February 24th.

Eligible feature films must have been released in Ireland (32 counties) for at least seven consecutive days to a public paying audience between October 1 2007 and no later than September 30 2008. No television or online transmission may have occurred before the film’s theatrical release.

The creative talent exercising artistic control over the submitted film must be either citizens or residents of Ireland however there is no requirement for entries to be in a language indigenous to Ireland. The dialogue must be predominantly in a language or languages other than English and accurate English subtitles are required.

Further information is available from the IFTA office – info@ifta.ie
