Director Paul Larkin picked up the award for Best International Documentary Director for his Irish language docu-drama ‘Imeacht na nÍarlaí’ at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (NYIIFVF) awards ceremony in NYC on Wednesday 27th June.
The docu-drama, written and produced by Bláithín Ní Chatháin, shot in Ardmore Studios, Donegal, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Rome, stars Stephen Rea (The Crying Game, V for Vendetta) as Hugh O Neill with Dominic Mafham (The Clinic), Niall Mac Eamharchaigh and Roderigo Rodrigues in supporting roles. Cameraman on the shoot was Ronan Fox with Mike Keane executive producing.
’Imeacht na nÍarlaí’, commissioned by TG4 and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI), commemorates the four hundredth anniversary of the journey of Hugh Ó Neill and the cream of Ulster nobility to Europe in 1607-08. The film premiered at the IFI’s Stranger than Fiction Festival in 2007.
’Imeacht na nÍarlaí’ will receive a second airing on TG4 on Sunday July 6th at 7.30pm.
