Oscar nominated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey (Atonement) returns home to his native Armagh for a public interview with Irish Times’ Film Critic Michael Dwyer on 29th May in the Market Place Theatre.
McGarvey recently scooped an IFTA for his work on ‘Atonement’, as well as receiving Oscar and BAFTA nominations. His previous credits include ‘World Trade Center’, ‘Sahara’, ‘Along Came Polly’, ‘High Fidelity’, ‘The Actors’, ‘Charlotte’s ‘Web’ and ‘The Hours’, for which he received a London Evening Standard British Film Award. He is currently shooting ‘The Soloist’ in LA with 'Atonement' director Joe Wright.
Talented McGarvey has also photographed and directed over 100 music videos for artists such as U2, the Rolling Stones, PJ Harvey, Robbie Williams, Paul McCartney, Dusty Springfield and Coldplay. In 2004 he was awarded the Royal Photographic Society’s prestigious Lumiere medal for contributions to the art of cinematography.
The interview, organized by Armagh City & District Council, will honour McGarvey’s exceptional achievement in world cinema and will see the DOP discuss his life and work as one of the film world’s most sought after cinematographers.
