Feenish Productions ‘The Wren’s Nest’ Flies to Cúirt
22 Apr 2008 :
Nead an Dreolin
James Kelly's collection of short poetry films for TG4 entitled ‘Nead an Dreoilín’ (The Wren's Nest) will be premiered at the Cúirt International Festival of Literature in Galway this Thursday, 24th April, before receiving its screen debut on Tuesday 29th April at 8pm, on TG4.

’Nead an Dreoilín’ can be viewed as six short films or one 26 minute piece, with each short focusing on a poem by a contemporary Irish language poet. The films feature the work of some of Ireland's best known wordsmiths - Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Louis De Paor, Máire Mhac an tSaoi, Biddy Jenkinson, Gearóid Mac Lochlainn and Mícheál Ó Cuaig.

Using a combination of archive footage, photographs and modern footage, each segment aims to lyrically and poetically reflect the poems they accompany.

Footage used includes black and white archive film, colorful super 8 home movies, black and white photography, contemporary performance poetry from the Falls road and1950s footage of Irish labourers digging the roads of London. Editing was completed by Feenish Productions, with online and colour grading by EGG post-production and audio post and mix by Waveform Studios

Directed by James Kelly of Feenish Productions, this is Kelly’s third production for TG4; previously directing ‘Spléachadh’, a series of 32 one minute films looking at contemporary artists and makers throughout the island of Ireland, and ‘Colman Doyle: Ábhar Machnaimh’, a 52’ documentary on the subject of Irish Press photographer, Colman Doyle.

Director James Kelly and poets Louis De Paor and Micheál Ó Cuaig will attend the Cúirt Festival screening, which takes place at 2.15pm on Thursday 24th April. For tickets ring the Town Hall Theatre, Galway on 091 – 569777.

’Nead an Dreoilín’ will be broadcast on TG4 on the Tuesday 29th of April at 8pm.
