The Irish Film Institute will pay tribute to the late actor Tom Murphy, whose credits include ‘Man About Dog’ and ‘Adam and Paul’, with a special charity event at the IFI at 6.15pm on Tuesday 15th January, with proceeds going to Irish cancer research.
The event, entitled 'Happy Birthday Mr. Murphy', will begin with a selection of highlights of the actor's work on the small screen, compiled by 'Adam & Paul' director Lenny Abrahamson. This will be followed by a screening of the 1982 drama 'The Lost Hour', in which a13-year-old Murphy stars, and an episode of 'Pure Mule'.
At 8.40pm, 'Tom Murphy on the Big Screen' will begin with an overview of Murphy's film career, followed by a screening of the award-winning 'Adam & Paul'.
Murphy, regarded as one of Ireland’s most talented actors, received an IFTA Best Actor Award in 2005 for his acclaimed work on ‘Pure Mule’ and a Tony Award for his Broadway performance in the Druid company’s ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ in 1998.
Murphy passed away on 6th of October 2007 of a quickly spreading lymphatic cancer. He was 39 years old.
