TV3’s latest entertainment series, ‘The Offside Show’, which takes a sideways glace at the world of soccer, broadcasts on Thursday nights at 10.30pm. Upcoming guests include ‘I Keano' stars Gary Cooke & Dessie Gallagher and Snooker champ Ken Doherty.
‘The Offside Show’ mixes guests, entertainment, comedy and viewer interaction. Produced by Dublin production company CABOOM, the show promises to delve into such questions as “is soccer the old religion?” and “is poker the new soccer?”
Newcomer to television, Dermot Whelan, is the host of ‘The Offside Show’. Whelan is a 98FM breakfast show DJ and has been performing stand-up comedy since 2004. He recently supported Des Bishop and is a regular performer at the International Comedy Club in Dublin. He has also appeared in the Irish feature films ‘Spin The Bottle’ and ‘Goldfish Memory’.
Dermot is joined in studio each week by a guest from the world of entertainment to discuss life and the beautiful game. The ‘I Keano’ actors will feature on the show this week with Ken Doherty joining Dermot on the 26th of May. There is a chance for viewers to vote over the series to decide who really is the Republic of Ireland’s greatest soccer player. And the opportunity to relive some of Irish soccer’s lesser-known moments, like the nation’s historic 1986 victory in the Icelandic Cup.
