20 Nov 2014 : Seán Brosnan
Irish DOP PJ Dillon has been nominated for an American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Award in the category of Outstanding Cinematography For A Television Series for his work on the History Channel show ‘Vikings’, which films in Ireland.

The American Society of Cinematographers was founded in Hollywood in 1919 with the dual purpose of advancing the art and science of cinematography and bringing cinematographers together to exchange ideas, discuss techniques and promote the motion picture as an art form.

PJ Dillon has previously won three IFTA awards for his work on Amazon drama ‘Ripper Street’ and for his work on the feature films ‘The Runway’ and ‘32A’. Dillon has also previously worked on ‘Game Of Thrones’, ‘Kings’, ‘Penny Dreadful’, ‘Roy’ and ‘Val Falvey TD’ and will serve as cinematographer on ‘Strangerland’, an Australian film starring Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes that is due for release next year.

PJ Dillon had this to say of his nomination: ‘I'm delighted to receive the nomination. I'm privileged to work with an amazing Camera, lighting and grip team on ‘Vikings’ and this nomination signifies recognition of our work from our international peers, which is very satisfying. I'm indebted to Morgan O'Sullivan and Michael Hirst for giving me the opportunity to shoot such a wonderful show and for their ongoing support and encouragement.’

Nominated in the category of Episode Of A Regular Series in the Outstanding Television section, Dillon will face competition from:

  • Jonathan Freeman, ASC, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ (HBO)
  • Anette Haellmigk, ‘Game of Thrones’ (HBO)
  • Christopher Norr, ‘Gotham’ (Fox)
  • Richard Rutkowski, ‘Manhattan’ (WGN America)
  • Fabian Wagner, Game of Thrones (HBO)

Winners of the organization’s 29th Annual Outstanding Achievement Awards will be announced on Feb. 15 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
