It’s a Wrap! ‘Vikings Series 3’ Enters Post-Production
07 Nov 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Hit History Channel series ‘Vikings’ has recently completed filming its third series on location in Co. Wicklow. The series was commissioned for a third season last March. It started filming last June and will now enter post-production in Toronto.

The series’ focus is on Ragnar Lothbrok, played by Travis Fimmel, a fearless warrior and a family man who is hungry for war and eager to conquer new lands. The series also stars Clive Standen, Jessalyn Gilsig, Katheryn Winnick and George Blagden.

‘Vikings’ is produced by World 2000 Entertainment, Take 5 Productions and MGM Television in association with Shaw Media and with funding from the Irish Film Board. The creator-writer of ‘Vikings’, Michael Hirst, executive produces the series with Irish producer Morgan O’Sullivan.

Morgan O’Sullivan told IFTN about the production of the third series: “It was kind of more challenging this year when compared to other years - everything was bigger in terms of scale and size. We had to construct a huge build of Paris as the Vikings attack Paris is this season and that was tough work. But every year we are trying to get bigger and better to compete with what’s out there and this shoot went exceedingly well! We are all very chuffed with it - bring on season four!”

The three series of ‘Vikings’ were shot in Co. Wicklow with production in Luggala and Ashford Studios. There were approximately 400 Irish people involved in the production of the series. A number of key Irish professionals involved in the production included director Ciarán Donnelly (‘The Tudors’, ‘Stardust’, ‘Titanic: Blood and Steel’), Joan Bergin (‘Tudors’, ‘David Copperfield’, ‘The Prestige’) and production designer Tom Conroy (‘Tudors’, ‘West is West’, ‘Breakfast on Pluto’).

‘Vikings’ Season 3 will premiere on the History Channel in 2015. The second series of ‘Vikings’ is currently showing on RTÉ 2 on Mondays at 9pm.

Polish-Irish co-production '11 Minutes' has also wrapped. The feature is directed by Jerzy Skolimowski ('An Essential Killing') and stars Richard Dormer. Picture post for the film will take place in Poland and sound mix will be in Ardmore Sound. '11 Minutes' is scheduled for release in 2015.
